Members of Swedish American association and orders

Between 1880-1890 the two big swedish orders Svithiod and Viking was founded in Chicago. They were organized in lodges and was active in serveral american cities. The main purpose with its activity was to strenghten the solidarity among swedes on the social level. Therefore an extensive support activity was initiated, the orders provided health insurance and funeral insurance. The indexing of this material has been performed from the microfilmed material that is available at the Swedish Emigrant Institute in Växjö, Sweden. The microfilms often contains further information, for example beneficiarys. Today the material contains 31 000 records regarding the following organizations:

  • Svithiod

  • Viking

  • Swedish Brothers of Minneapolis

  • Västgötaförbundet
